Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) looks at the relationship between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. The cognitive component involves examining the ways you think and making changes in terms of how we think about things.
The behavioural component involves examining the things you do and changing how we respond in certain anxiety-provoking situations.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a form of CBT used in the treatment of OCD. Specifically it involves two main parts:
• Exposure to triggers (the things that bring on obsessions and uncomfortable feelings).
• Response prevention: Gradually reducing and resisting the urge to perform compulsions.
We offer CBT, ERP and behavioural coaching in your natural environments. We can meet with you in your home or somewhere in the community depending on your goals (e.g. work, school, grocery store, etc.). We help you apply and practice your therapy skills in the settings that matter most to help strengthen new learning and make lasting changes!
OCD can impact the whole family. It can be difficult to see our loved one in distress and it is natural to want to do anything in our power to relieve this distress. Unfortunately, this can often enable your loved one’s symptoms. Parent/partner/family coaching involves learning about the condition and accommodation in OCD, as well as learning communication strategies and things you can do to reduce/eliminate accommodating behaviours.
This 5-day virtual group offers intensive exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy. The group is designed for individuals who have had previous OCD treatment but have fallen off track with practicing their skills. The group provides a powerful reset and helps you get back on track by setting clear goals each day, applying evidenced based strategies to your daily OCD challenges, and receiving individualized coaching and feedback to maximize your success.
